In 1856 Thomas Burberry founded his company on the idea that clothing needed to protect people from the British weather. Gabardine was invented, it was the first lightweight breathable fabric that was waterproof. From 1879 to around 1910 various people began testing the endurance of the fabric. People wore it in overseas air balloon competitions and to the arctic circle. These insane conditions gave the Burberry brand its notoriety. The trench coat was designed in 1916 during WW1. It was created for extra protection, storage, and of course keeping the troops dry. Today the design still has military elements. In 1920 the trademark Burberry Check was created. The pattern was originally only made to line coats but it is now synonymous with the brand. Now you can shop for your favorite Burberry check items such as Vintage Slides, Hats, and Button Downs right here on Luxurysnob.
